Started by Steve @ bripblap · 10 months ago

I’m of the firm opinion that a lot of the choices we make in terms of the substances we ingest determine our health, which then influences wealth, happiness and on and on ad nauseum. A lot of the “ingestibles” in America are really bad for you. This is not solely an Ameri ... Continue reading »

  • this article helped me kick my coke habit: http://www.healthbolt.net/2006/12/08/what-happe...
  • best way to quit anything is COLD TURKEY.

    mind over matter.
  • i have been going on a little over 2 years strong without soda! its def. the best way to live :P
  • yeah ... soda is just plain horrible, and i believe that finally, more and more people are starting to realize this ...although you are right , its amazing that even schools give kids horrible over processed junk ....
  • Not only will you feel much better if you quit drinking soda, you will start to lose weight if you were a heavy drinker. I work in a restaurant so we tended to drink soda all day long, on a hot day you could easily put back 10 32 ounce cups in one shift. Thats like thousands of calories in sugar alone! When I quit drinking pop I lost about 30 pounds in three months with little other diet change. That was the catalyst that got me started taking my food/drink intake seriously, I wrote my own nutrient analysis software and really started watching what I ate, down about 100 lbs over a year or so, went from 300lbs to 205, and now I can run 10 miles no sweat, when I first started i could barely walk half a mile. And I really owe it all to quitting drinking the soda.
  • Great post :) I stopped drinking coke in 1996....I will on occasions have a 7up, though very rarely. It's very important for people to realize how bad this stuff is for your body. thanks for the article!
  • This all makes sense to me....I really want to quit drinking diet coke....this has inspired me, but not sure this will happen. I love the feeling of colas fizzing down my throat. Although lately I have been enjoying Perrier or other carbonated waters....might be worth a try.
  • I hear you sandra....I want to quit, but can't think of a day without the fizzy, bubbly refreshing drink......
  • Do it gradually, reduce your coca-cola intake daily, and replace with Perrier or seltzer. Eventually the taste of coke will be so strange to you. I haven't had coke in a long time (don't remember how long) and tried it the other day. It tasted so wierd, so artificial and too sweet (I had diet Coke).
  • Sandra and Linda, I would highly recommend trying seltzer mixed with a little fruit juice. If you get a good natural/organic fruit juice and mix it 1 part to 3 parts seltzer approximately, you'll get a very light and satisfying drink. Cola is acid. A natural fruit juice is far, far better. Just give it a shot - I think you'll be surprised.
  • Thank goodness for your acknowledgment of the dangers of aspartame. My dad always bugs me about having a Dr. Pepper once a week, while he's chugging down 3-4 diet Cokes every day. ::rolls eyes:: It's silly, and though I've sent him at least 20 articles on the dangers of fake sweetener, he's in denial over the fact that it's bad for the human body.
  • I stopped drinking soda just over a year ago. I've probably had 1/4 can twice since then. both times I took a few sips and threw it away since I couldn't stand the taste!

great tips. I also like drinking room temperature water with ice cubes in it.
  • I gave up soda for about 6 months and have recently had a terrible relapse. I'm still not buying it at the store, but have taken to getting it daily at work.

    And I like diet :(
