This is a really good idea - I got my first card in college (or university as we call it) and used & abused it to no end. Maybe if I had a bit of training with the thing in high school it might have worked out better.
I'm definitely doing this with my son!

I also got a Discover card with 0% interest for 12 months. I'm planning on keeping a balance on the card for the entire 12 month period. With the money I would have spent in place of the credit card, I will be placing it in a high yield savings account and in the stock market. My hope is that I earn interest in the 12 month period. On top of the rewards I get, this is a source of extra cash for just being financially responsible!
