I think t.v. is a waste of time, all people do is sit around a get more and more obese. That is why most people die at an early age is because the lack or exercise. Limiting T.V. time can only bring good to peoples lives. If anything take away the T.V. and get a computer. You can learn far more from a computer than you can from a T.V. any day. Sorry if I make people mad, but that is how I feel about T.V.

Re: everyone is special and unique just the way they are

"Cause Gosh darnit, people like me!" :)

Re: everyone is special and unique just the way they are

We do have a tv but we don't watch it when the kids are awake.

It's tough since sometimes it's easier to just watch tv - there have been a few times in the last couple of months where we did watch for a bit.

Chores don't get done.... :)

I just don't like the idea of young kids watching tv - I'm ok with the 3 yr old but our 1.5 yr old is still pretty young. And our 3 yr old is not toilet trained in case you think we are some kind of super-parents.

Re: everyone is special and unique just the way they are

Wow! How is it possible? You don't have TV at home? Sorry to ask the question ;o)) What do they and you do all day together? I admit that I do turn the TV on when I have to do some chores in the house and don't want them to get in the way (like cooking or cleaning). Very admirable, btw.

Re: everyone is special and unique just the way they are

This is so spot on. My sister in a freshman in high school (over 10 years difference between us, so I'm always on her case), and one of the most recent things she told me was that "no, she doesn't need to do her best, she is great the way she is." Now, I consider "being the best" to be a noble goal in life, but I realize that's debatable. Yet, at least trying to do your best should be the minimum. If you don't challenge yourself, you'll never get anywhere. And then the self-esteem suffers because "being yourself" is just not enough.

Re: everyone is special and unique just the way they are

@FourPillars: Wow, good job on the TV - but just think of all the quality programming you've missed. Sit down and watch Dora on your own a few times. It's GREAT. Ugh.

And discipline? What is discipline? Is that getting them to do things they should do instead of what they want to do? I have heard of this "discipline" but it is a strange word to me.

Argh :)

Re: everyone is special and unique just the way they are

@guinness416: Uh, that's not going to make you, uh, the most popular guest. Heh :)

Re: everyone is special and unique just the way they are

Hilarious post! I have to say that we have been extremely successful at keeping our kids away from tv - at 3.1 years and 1.5 years I don't think they have 2 hours of tv time between them.

I only say this in a bragging tone to make up for our complete failure in other areas of their life - potty training for example. Any kind of discipline would be another example. :)

Re: everyone is special and unique just the way they are

<<your attempt="" at="" building="" self-esteem="" is="" going="" to="" implode="" when="" these="" kids="" realize,="" as="" adults="" staring="" at="" the="" clock="" in="" the="" cubicle="" at="" 4:52="" pm,="" that="" all="" of="" the="" bubbly="" anthems="" declaring="" that="" “everyone="" is="" special”="" were="" a="" lie="">>

is henceforth my default message for cards at baby showers.
