I've also worked in a variety of spaces. My current setup has no windows, anywhere. The nearest windows are in the cafeteria. Another pitfall of the corporate world. Funny though, my best setup was in an industrial park. Every building was surrounded by cherry trees, which put on a beautiful display each spring. Enjoy that view!

At one point in my career I happened to occupy a cubicle that backed up against a window. As my rank did not entitle me to a window, Facilities put up a cubicle wall against the window so that I couldn't see out. Any organization that does that is stupid, plain and simple.

Today, I work largely in my walk-out basement (you don't have those things where you are any more, right, Steve?). There are windows, but I really don't care. I'm working, and that's what I'm focused on, not what is going on outside.

I used to work for a "mega-corp" where my desk was staring straight at the nicest view overlooking Hudson River, Statue of Liberty and Verrazano Bridge beyond it. Then a giant condo building was built and ruined it. I loved gazing out and rest my eyes. Now I regret that I didn't take any pictures. I think if you have a window in your working space it's a big plus.

I work in the back area of a library (Technical Services). We're the ones who add all the books to the catalog and make sure the books are physically ready to go out on the shelves. In most cases, this department is stuck in a basement or somewhere random.
Where I am, we have a lovely office area with offices for the catalogers and pleasant cubicles for people doing my job (largish and fulfilling the original role of a cubicle...being a useful 2-desk work-space) plus a window right across the floor from me, so every time I look up from my computer I can see a poplar tree. :)
It's probably the most pleasant place I've worked.
