Makes me think of the Gavreau quote I used on my 11/25 post. Thanks for the mention and link as well. Happy Thanksgiving and good luck with the laptop.

Re: thankful not to be

Torbjorn, I've actually got Ubuntu - I run it off a CD on my laptop. I was in the process of getting used to it.. and then the laptop died. The interface was fine, but I've just been worried a bit about the interactions with all of my peripherals - printers, USB keys, etc. But I should probably quit being such a chicken - I have a desktop with XP on it, so it's not like I really need two Windows machines....

Re: thankful not to be

Steve, try out Ubuntu. It's an open source (linux) operating system and can completely replace Windows. Can also be made to "look" like either one. Very customizable. I'm in the process of switching over, and will probably be deleting my Windows Vista partition in the near future.

Google it. Images and youtube videos are readily available too.
...or perhaps you've already tried and rejected that route...

Re: thankful not to be

Couldn't agree more with what you say here. A lot to be thankful for. Happy Thanksgiving!

Re: thankful not to be

Congratulations, Steve! It's sort of weird to congratulate someone on losing a job, but "necessity is the mother of invention," so maybe this necessity will provide the impetus to reinvent yourself and your life! Have at it! (But first enjoy some turkey....)
