I do read saturday's Irish Times cover to cover every week (spare me the "every news source is biased" line, I'm aware of it) and the occasional Sunday NY Times. I also make a point of knowing what's going on in both my and my husband's countries most every day. The old cup o' tea and a paper in the morning is definitely satisfying to me. Waste of time? I don't know, perhaps I'd be learning more foreign languages or raising prize-winning orchids if I gave up my papers, but I can live with that.

Ever notice how so many headlines these days are not statements of fact, but questions of what may happen or what could happen? Please explain to me how that is news.
The best part is the people who think they are brilliant because they listen to the current talking heads on TV or radio 'news' shows. They should try forming their own opinion and seeing the world through their own eyes - it's better!

Mostly the news is rubbish, and I don't normally listen to or watch it. Sometimes I browse the news in various high-brow, left of centre media sources. It's kind of interesting, but I've become quite ambivalent about it.
